Ink, watercolour and pencil on watercolour paper
15 x 15 cm, 2019, £POA
This series of drawings explore quiet intimate and internal spaces within the human body. The drawings are made as pairings, so two that look similar can sit side by side. However, they are not meant to be identical but rather suggest a connection. I like the idea that two works look very similar but on closer inspection, the slight differences become apparent. This reflects how our own bodies often have slight imperfections such as, a person’s left eye may be smaller than the right. This series started as imprints made on paper using red Indian ink. Whilst some marks were made with intention, others were purely accidental and so, I allowed the element of chance to dictate the final surface I would then draw onto. As I was already working on drawings related to the human form, these drawings came as a natural progression. I intuitively started to add detail that suggested internal landscape, space, tissue and even scarring. This series is not limited to the ones I have made to date. I feel its an ongoing collection of small drawings, that I may add further drawings to. I like the idea of creating making a collection similar to a pack of playing cards, so they can be laid out to create a pattern, perhaps a pictorial map of little internal spaces.
